How Exhibits Can Increase the Value of a Case

Exhibits can have a substantial impact on the value of a case. We obtained a multi-million dollar settlement for a young girl who suffered severe vision impairment because the physician failed to diagnose and treat increased intracranial pressure. As a result of the persistent pressure inside of her head, the girl’s optic nerve was crushed and she is now permanently legally blind. Even with corrective lenses, she is hardly able to see anything, has a decreased field of vision, and is unable to perceive color.

The difficult aspect of this case was ensuring the jury understood the dramatic loss of vision. Words do not describe the full impact of such a significant injury. To make sure the devastation caused by the physician’s negligence was appreciated, we videotaped scenes of her everyday life. Those included the street on which she lived, her home, her family and her school. We then hired a professional editor and an expert physician to create a split screen video. One side showed how the scenes were viewed before the physician’s negligence and the other side showed the way those same scenes are viewed now. It was only after the defendant saw this dramatic exhibit that he got serious about resolving this case.

We are committed to creative methods of making sure the case is understood and is presented effectively. We have used a variety of visual tools such as video and computer animation to help present our clients’ cases. These tools are worthwhile because they help people appreciate the realities of the case.
